Panel Discussion: First Approach to Identifying the Common Challenges to Democracy in the Western Balkans and Eastern Partnership Countries

On September 18, 2025, at 12:00 in Hall 1 of the Faculty of Montenegrin Language and Literature in Cetinje, within Cetinje Philological Days, a panel discussion will be held on identifying common challenges to democracy in the Western Balkans and Eastern Partnership countries.

The event will present findings from a new paper developed as part of the international project Addressing the Common Challenges to Democracy in the Western Balkans and Eastern Partnership.

Speakers include Stevan Dojčinović from the Crime and Corruption Reporting Network (KRIK), Hernán Alberro from the Forum 2000 Foundation (Czech Republic), and Prof. Boban Batrićević from the Faculty of Montenegrin Language and Literature.

The project is implemented by Forum 2000 with financial support from the Visegrad Fund. It brings together nine organizations from the Visegrad Group (V4) and the Eastern Partnership countries, aiming to strengthen the role of civil society organizations as key actors in democratic resilience and change in their regions.

The panel discussion is directly related to the recently published discussion paper, First Approach to Identifying the Common Challenges to Democracy in the Western Balkans and Eastern Partnership Countries. This paper analyzes key challenges such as the weakening of civil society, the rise of nationalism and populism, geopolitical pressures, socio-economic inequalities, and the erosion of democratic processes.
